University of Iowa

Graphic Designer | Marketing & Advertising / Higher Education | 2023 - 2024

Overview

As a Graphic Designer for the University of Iowa, I visually communicated marketing and promotional material connecting institutional goals and student engagement for Student Life Communications (SLC), a department under the Division of Student Life. I edited and created these original, multi-channel artworks and branded assets with Adobe Creative Suite for departments that worked closely with the SLC, such as the University of Iowa Lecture Committee, Campus Activity Board (CAB), and University Housing and Dining, with occasional third-party collaborations.

Brand Guidelines & Integrity

Working within a large institutional ecosystem required a strict adherence to established visual identities. I utilized the University of Iowa Brand Manual (brand.uiowa.edu) to ensure that all multi-channel assets maintained consistency across typography, color profiles, and logo usage, preserving brand integrity across every department.

Collaboration & Workflow

The Student Life Communications workflow began with art directors, creative coordinators, marketers, and designers gathering project briefs directly from internal stakeholders through Slack or email. A ticket would then be created on ActiveCollab, which transitioned into Asana toward the end of my employment, to track and manage the project. From there, I would create or edit the materials based on the ticket and send them to seniority to integrate feedback and iterate rapidly until the final assets were completed.
